About LUCRF

How we've made a difference so far...

The Doxa Youth Foundation, an inaugural Community Partner of the LUCRF Community Partnership Trust, provides essential programs and services to children and young people that may be experiencing learning, social, or emotional difficulties.

Josh's Story

As Josh transitioned from a supportive primary school environment, to a more challenging secondary school setting, his general reactions to discipline became explosive.

It was difficult for his parents to understand why at first, however, over time it became apparent that Josh was being bullied at school. He became increasingly isolated, even from his primary school friends, who told him that they could no longer be friends as they feared they would be subject to bullying by association.

Tired of the bullying and angry feelings, Josh was introduced to Doxa School, which provides an alternative to mainstream education for children and young people who are at risk of partial or non school attendance. He later became involved with martial arts through the School’s Afternoon Program, which gave him structure, discipline and helped him to make new friends.

Doxa School Youth Worker Paul says, “When Josh arrived at Doxa, the only way he knew how to react was through violence. Now he has found his niche and understands that it isn’t about learning to fight, it’s about controlling his emotions and his focus.”

Josh has since been introduced to a new school and graduated from the Program. He has not had any incidence of anger or disciplinary issues and in fact recently said, “I learnt to control myself because of what I learnt in martial arts. I feel like I am now good at something.”

The LUCRF Community Partnership Trust looks forward to continuing its support for organisations such as the Doxa Youth Foundation, to help disadvantaged youths turn their lives around and make the most out of their time at school.
