Sasho Petrovski

Newcastle Jets footballer and
LUCRF Super Member

Speaking with Sasho Petrovski, the first thing you notice is how passionate he is about football, his family and his life.

Sasho has played over 300 senior football games in a 17 year career that has seen him score 126 goals and represent the Socceroos. He is a multiple Championship winner particularly being part of the Sydney FC side that won the inaugural A-League title in 2005.

His greatest achievements have been playing and scoring for Australia and being a dad. Sasho is the proud father of three beautiful daughters. Aside from football, his other hobbies include fishing and driving fast cars.

Extremely down to earth and friendly, Sasho lives and breathes football and has done since the age of six. He was always good at it at school and believes ‘when you’re good at something, it’s good to stick at it’. From an early age he had talent scouts spot him on the sports field and single him out to play.

He enjoyed playing at local clubs but always had a lot of interest from other clubs and offers to play at a higher level, so in 1994, he started playing in the state league for Bankstown City Lions, where he spent the next four years. He enjoyed his time there and the team won several major tournaments. He then spent some time playing for Parramatta Melita, where they won back to back championships.

Sasho’s professional career really kicked off when he moved up to the old National Soccer League (NSL) Wollongong Wolves. His four seasons at the Wolves saw him become one of the most prolific strikers in Australia and his goals contributed to the most successful period in the Wolves history, winning two NSL titles. But Sasho had his mind set on international football. Off to Germany he went to source an international contract, things were going well but Germany didn’t bite – luckily, while he was there he played against the Danish team, who were more than impressed with his skills. Consequently they offered him a three year contract. He was the first Aussie to play in Denmark for the Viborg FC and he opened up the doors for other Australians to play there too.

When he returned home, he played briefly for Parramatta Power, then moved onto the Sydney FC (A-league). The club was new at that stage and they gathered a good team (including the great Dwight Yorke) and went on to be very successful. This was the team that set the standard for the A-league. But wherever Sasho was, there was always interest from other clubs. He spent some time with the Central Coast Mariners, before joining his current team, the Newcastle Jets. He’s already made a massive impact with them and as usual keeps scoring goals.

Having played for so many different teams, Sasho ended up with lots of different super accounts. Since becoming a LUCRF member, Sasho has recently consolidated his super with the help of LUCRF Super Business Development Manager, David Mehan. Of his experience with LUCRF so far, Sasho said his experience was great, “David got everything together and rolled them into one account, so I was happy with that”.
