Finding your lost super

If you have changed your job, address or name in the last 10 years, and did not advise your superannuation fund(s) you could have ‘lost’ or ‘unclaimed’ superannuation. This ‘lost’ or ‘unclaimed’ super may be held in your previous super fund or may have been transferred to an Eligible Rollover Fund (ERF) such as Australia’s Unclaimed Super Fund (AUSfund).

Who is AUSfund?

AUSfund is an Eligible Rollover Fund (ERF) and a complying, regulated superannuation fund. An ERF is a superannuation fund  that is eligible to receive benefits automatically rolled over from other superannuation funds.

Like many other super funds, LUCRF Super may transfer your benefit to AUSfund if your account balance is less than $500 and if contributions have not been received for more 12 months.

What is SuperSeeker?

When a superannuation fund loses contact with you, such as where mail issued to you is returned, you may be classed by the fund as a ‘lost member’. Superannuation funds are required by law to provide a list of lost members to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) on a regular basis. The ATO maintains a central Lost Member Register, but the actual super benefit remains in the fund and is not held by the ATO.

SuperSeeker allows individuals to search the ATO’s Lost Member Register. If found, you can  arrange to have your ‘lost’ super account transferred into your current fund, such as LUCRF Super.

How do I find my lost super?

If you can't remember who your lost super is with, there is a quick and easy way to find it – its free!

AUSfund is LUCRF Super’s nominated ERF and works to locate lost members and reunite them with their lost super.  Search for any lost super you may have by using AUSfund’s Super Search or call AUSfund on 1300 361 798.

Alternatively, you can search the Australian Taxation Office’s SuperSeeker website. SuperSeeker is also a free service that will look for your lost superannuation.

There are 3 ways you can search for your lost super through the ATO’s SuperSeeker:

  1. Call the ATO’s SuperSeeker self-help phone service on 13 28 65 and follow the prompts. This phone service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week (you will need your tax file number {TFN} to obtain information); or
  2. Visit the ATO’s online SuperSeeker website. You will need your TFN to conduct the search; or
  3. Download and complete a Lost members register enquiry form and post it to:
    Australian Taxation Office
    Lost Members Register
    PO Box 3578
    Albury NSW 2640
