The CF Hub project

Cystic Fibrosis: the most common life shortening genetic disease in Australia. The degenerative condition affects the digestive and respiratory systems – eventually shutting down the lungs. There is no cure.

Cystic Fibrosis Queensland

Many members of the cystic fibrosis community struggle through the difficult years of adolescence and young adulthood.

Cystic Fibrosis Hub ProjectThe risk of cross infection isolates people living with cystic fibrosis (CF) from others. With few role models or peers to share experiences with, the battle with depression and anxiety intensifies.

Proudly funded by the LUCRF Super Community Program, ‘The CF Hub’, an initiative of Cystic Fibrosis Queensland (CFQ) was launched in July 2017 to help address these issues.

‘The CF Hub’ is a safe online environment where young people with CF can mix, develop friendships and share the latest news and insights.

It provides necessary support through a challenging period, posting articles that span the latest CF treatments through to meditations and recipes.

“We invited the young people who would use the Hub, to initiate, design and develop it” explained Petrina Fraccaro, CEO of CFQ.

“Not only has the project delivered an innovative platform, we’re pleased to report that it’s delivered a strong sense of achievement, independence and long-lasting camaraderie among the Hub’s development team.”

‘The CF Hub’ has further generated a raft of social media content viewed by late teens and young adults, a demographic that generally resists engaging with health-support organisations.

Boasting 250 followers on Facebook and 269 on Instagram, ‘The CF Hub’ has achieved a strong result for a new site with a closed membership.

We’re proud to have provided financial assistance via our Community Program to support the design and development of ‘The CF Hub’.
